Beeswax will strengthen your thread and also reduce knotting in hand sewing. This wax coating will stabilize the thread thus reducing the tendency of knotting during hand sewing. The beeswax will keep your thread from tangling and knotting up when doing hand sewing, and it will strengthen the thread for sewing on buttons. I also use it to stiffen the end of my thread to thread my serger.
